Day of commencement – 10th May, a stirring journey of 77 days, 8000 inspiring bearers, a 8000-mile journey across UK and one torch, the sun-lit flame of spirit, knowledge and life.

The esteemed Olympic Torch has started its much-awaited relay which only gets more enlivening as it enters the UK on 18th of May to come in close proximity with as much as 95% of the entire population. An ardent symbol of purity and endeavor for perfection, the relay signifies the continuity of the Olympic Games over the generations.

The Flame’s relay begins at Land’s End, the oxymoron here being possibly unintended, making Plymouth the bearer of its course for Day 1. The relatively warm and dry Cardiff weather is expected to give just the right setting for the heady run in the first week. Pick any of the days or any of the cities or routes planned for the Flame’s journey and one will notice a heap of different activities, some pure entertainment while some purposeful, but definitely all for the pure spirit of life. Although the flame did get hushed by a gust of wind briefly before its journey even began, people’s spirit has not succumbed even a bit. Well the torch certainly seems to have convinced the masses.

The London 2012 Olympic Torch is an award-winning design with 8,000 small cut-out circles, one for each of the inspiring people who will carry it around the UK. It was tested in BMW’s climatic testing facility in Munich to make sure it can survive all the United Kingdom weather patterns it is likely to face.

Other than daily evening celebrations in the respective towns along the Flame’s route, the activities range from dance and musical performances to arrangement of special exhibitions. Events across all exciting categories like art, history, culture, theatre, food, fashion, games, walkathons, cycling and go-green initiatives are scheduled everywhere that are set to experience the relay.

But the hottest development is that of the live sites for public viewing of the Olympics. For example, the Exchange square in Manchester is one of the chosen live sites though the astute ones would check up on Manchester weather conditions to be well prepared for an exciting experience of the games.

With the London 2012 festival topping it all, the arrival of the flame has truly set the masses’ energy on fire. UK’s most eventful summer is here brought by the spirit of the year, the Olympic Torch.
