Wayanad Packages - The Green Paradise
Situated in the state of Kerala, the district of Wayand is known for its natural greenery and picturesque landscape. The name Wayanad is said to be derived from the word 'Vayal Nadu' which means paddy field. The district lies between the Western Ghats and is covered by thick forests which is also called 'The Green Paradise'. Perched at an altitude of 2100 m, Wayanad is famous for a variety of endangered animals and varied vegetation.
The Wayand district has a very old history of three thousand years of inhabitation and the ruins of Stone Age civilization can be found here. Pazhassi Raja, Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan had ruled the area and later the region came under the rule of the British. On November 1, 1980, Wayanad became a district which consists of three taluks namely Vythiri, Manathavadi and Sulthan Batheri.

... trekking of 1 km distance and is famous for pre-historic paintings. The Thirunelli Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, is a famous temple and is considered the Kashi of the south. The Papanashini River flows through the area and washes away all the sins of the people by a mere bathing in the river. Sulthan Batheri Fort, built by Tipu Sulthan, is very attractive. The Neelimala View Point is 27 km from Kalpatta, from where we can have a look at the whole area nearby. The scenic beauty is fantastic and we can do adventurous trekking to the region.
The main economy of the district of Wayanad is Agriculture. Rice, coffee, tea, cocoa, pepper and vanilla are the main crops found here. The cuisine of Wayanad is the typical Kerala food includes Rice, Avial, Sambar, Papadam and Payasam. Fish items are also served here. Onam is the main festival celebrated here with great enthusiasm. Mahashivatri is also celebrated here.
The moderate climate of the area attracts the tourists from all over the country. During summers the maximum temperature reaches only up to 30 degree Celsius and the minimum falls to 10 degrees in the winters. October to May is the perfect time to visit the place.
The nearest airport to the district of Wayanad is Karipur International Airport at Kozhikode which is 100 km away. The train connection is also from Kozhikode Railway station which is about 110 km away. Kerala State Road Transport Corporations’s (KSRTC) buses are available to reach the nearby states. Roads are good and one can drive in your own vehicle from Bangalore, Mangalore and Chennai.
