The Bintulu town is a part coastal, part riverine town located midway between Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. Bintulu is Sarawak's main industrial town and principal deep-water port primarily catering to the oil, gas and timber industries. It is located at the mouth of the Kemena River. Some of the notable attractions at Bintulu are the Mulu and Lambir National Parks, Niah Caves, Bakun Resort and the Sibuti Wildlife Sanctuary.

But it is worthwhile to remember that the forest is a protected area and hence a permit is required for entry. The permit is easily available at the park entrance.
Close to the national park is the Taman Tumbina Bintulu, which is a mini-zoo and botanical garden. While you can observe a lot of flora and fauna here, don't forget to check out the walk-in hornbill aviary, which is one of the leading areas of interest inside this place.
You can also find various markets here and shop for various things such as clothes, artefacts, etc. The cone-shaped roof Pasar Tamu and Pasar Utama located at the riverfront sell a large variety of local produce and local hawker foods. The thing to look for is the famous “Bintulu Belacan” or the shrimp paste. At night you may like to check out the Pasar Malam located off Abang Galau Road and try out the street food, drinks and cakes.
Another option for recreation is the Bintulu Promenade, which is the longest waterfront in Sarawak. You would certainly find an evening stroll here to be quite refreshing and exhilarating and would certainly enjoy the view of the Kemena River and the cool breeze.
One of the most popular Bintulu tourist attractions is the Tanjung Batu Beach which is a much frequented picnic spot located approximately 3 km from Bintulu town centre. It’s a peaceful and serene beach which would certainly let you take pleasure in the wonderful sights while breathing in the fresh ocean breeze.
