Malaysia is a country of diversity. What is found in West Malaysia may not necessarily be available in East Malaysia. Although many states may have their own harbour-front attractions, each different location is unique. For example, the places to visit in Waterfront Kuching are different than those in the southernmost state of the Peninsula, Johor. Kuching is a city in Easy Malaysia and the ethnicity of the people may be different than that of the people of Johor. So even though both cities have their own version of a waterfront attraction, the setting and environment can be significantly different from one another.

There are many places to visit in Waterfront Kuching and one of the most popular is the Main Bazaar. The entire façade of the building is very much maintained in its original form. The row of shop houses along the main street is where you ...
... can find the finest local handicrafts of Sarawak. The charming quaintness of the shops makes for a picturesque background for photo ops too. Many visitors spend hours upon hours browsing through the collection of handmade souvenir items that are sold at reasonable prices in the bazaar. The variety of arts and collectible items will definitely make your trip worth your time.

Another offering at the waterfront of the city of Kuching is the Sarawak River Cruise. The sceneries along the river bank are to die for especially at night when the coastline is lighted from one end to the other. If you do not like cruises, you can always choose to walk along the promenade and take your time looking at beautiful items sold at souvenir kiosks and handicraft stalls. Of course, you may find that the prices of the items sold here may be slightly higher than at the Main Bazaar. But there may also be items that you won’t find elsewhere so it would be a good idea for you to really browse through before buying anything.

There are also many places to visit in Malaysia especially on the south of the Peninsula. The state of Johor also has its own waterfront known as Danga Bay. Like in Kuching, the Johor Bahru waterfront also offers many attractions in terms of shopping, dining and sightseeing. The promenade along the coastline provides a peaceful and serene setting for visitors to enjoy the evening breeze by the beach. The rows of shops along the promenade provide endless choices for those of you who love unique handmade items. Although all these are also available at the Kuching waterfront, the local context of these facilities is somewhat different.

Many of the popular places to visit in Johor are located within walking distance from the Johor Bahru waterfront. One of the must-see destinations in this city is the Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque. Located on the hilltop by the straits, you will be able to see the panoramic view of the Tebrau straits and possibly some parts of Singapore too. As one of the oldest mosques in the city, the Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque holds great historical value and is visited by many tourists throughout the year. There are also many local hawkers that sell mouth-watering Johor food around the area. You should try the ABC or Air Batu Campur (basically crushed ice with syrup and condensed milk) and the Laksa Johor (noodles or spaghetti in fish gravy). You will definitely enjoy the local cuisine.

The two states are different in many ways. Both have their own waterfront attractions but neither is similar to the other. If you really wish to see the diversity of the people of Malaysia, it is recommended that you visit both states and see the celebrated differences yourself.
