Like most people in today’s digital age, I live, work and play on the internet and without it I am truly lost. There are millions of people, like me, that have lost track of the many websites they have subscribed to and fail to remember their web ID’s and passwords. Managing passwords is a BIG problem that we all have to contend with, and up until now there has not been any one easy and secure solution that can make our lives easier. While many enterprises have Single Sign on and IdM Identity Management services within their protected network, normal users do not really have too many options except for the insecure Social Media connects.

Over the past year there have been an unprecedented number of security breaches targeted at all sectors and identities, and a lot of confidential information has been compromised. Check here for CNET’s hacker chart that lists chronology of breaches. Once bitten, twice shy…too many users have had their private information hacked over the past few years, and now the onus is on us, the consumers, to protect ourselves since the companies that should be safely storing our private information, ...
... the like of Sony, Citibank, Zappos, Symantec, Box.net, LastPass, etc., cannot be trusted.

It has seemed like no matter what new technology comes about to help the Internet users, we have been stripped of the ability to control and browse the Internet safely. Thus, SmartSignin was born to allow avid web users with subscriptions to numerous websites and apps, and have myriad IDs and passwords, to take charge of all their online credentials and private data, conveniently and securely from a single platform.

A prototype was developed to allow users to Single Sign on to all their websites with one click. But we needed to come up with a novel way to protect user credentials more effectively. Dr. Vijay Kumar Murty and Dr. Ken Giuliani, at the University of Toronto, helped us secure SmartSignin. Dr. Murty, the Chair of the Mathematics department at the University of Toronto and the head of the Ganita labs at the University of Toronto developed the Smart Key algorithm based on theory he had been working on for the past couple of years.

Let’s describe the patented Smart-key algorithm in some more detail. Our basic model acts with a user that wishes to access a website. The website is addressed using a URL. In order to log on, the user needs a series of user ID’s and passwords corresponding to that URL. These user ID’s and passwords are stored on a server. To retrieve the login information for a particular website, the user must be logged into the server and send the appropriate request. The only question that remains is how can the user decrypt their own passwords? For this, they need a key.The Smart-Key solved the problem of security, which is the most important thing that everyone wants and convenience. To DOWNLOAD the Whitepaper click here. The SmartSignin plug-in was developed in conjunction with the web application. It is very smart and monitors login forms so that when the user inputs on a login form, it captures form fields, formulates SmartSignin proprietary XML containing target login page, form field ids and user credentials, encrypts the xml using our Patented Smart-Key encryption, calls the SmartSignin website and inserts data into the database - without ever sending any text in the clear. All the encryption and decryption happens on the client-side and no un-encrypted text ever leaves the user machine. To top it off we are developing the SmartSignIn mobile application which does everything that the web based version does and is completely secure!
