Many of us know what advertising is and how it works. But do you think that advertising has a strong hold over what we think. Sometimes we may also have doubts whether the mass media dictates our needs and wants. Well, to be frank there are many theories on how advertising affects us. The various creative heads of the different advertising agencies are often busy churning out new ideas on how to deliver their message to the general public.

In this major chunk of the general public, the children consists the most and are the main target group of the advertising agencies. Many of the advertisements that we watch on the TV are aimed towards children. If you really want to have the sole proof of this, then check out the normal advertisements that are shown in the TV. You are bound to see that. Basically the prime motive of all advertisements is to convince the viewers about the quality of the product that is advertised and instill the urge in them to purchase the same.

Today, advertising plays a major role in the society by influencing the young minds especially of the children. The basic and the primary motive of ...
... advertisement is to gain attention. Especially if it is targeted at children, then the message needs to be conveyed in a different manner. You may have seen the way the goods or products are packed in order to appeal the young generation. Nowadays, children are more specific about their needs and wants. So you can almost say that children are the major buying force of the advertisers.

Sometimes advertising can have a negative influence on kids. If parents are not careful and don't teach the children the importance of the money, then children will misinterpret the message conveyed in the advertisement. They may sometimes end up having wrong notations about many issues. In short you could say that advertising influences the minds of the children and that can create a need to have a particular product which is advertised. The glossy and the attractive images on the magazines, billboards, the colorful advertising on televisions create the urge among the children to buy things. SO what happens is that parents who cannot deal with the rising tantrums and demands of their children give in to their demands.

Also sometimes children get carried away and used to a certain lifestyle that is shown on the television or through the media. This is in turn creates a very wrong impression on their young minds making them lose their ability to live life without relying on materialistic joys. But advertising is not totally bad. It does make children aware of the new products that are available in the market. Plus besides that it also increases their knowledge about the latest innovation in the area of technology and science. Even sometimes convincing ads which center around healthy food products can improve the diet of children if the advertisement is attractive.

Another thing that children commonly follow is the dangerous stunts that are shown in advertisements. Children blindly follow those stunts and get injured in return. They don't know that all these stunts are done by experts. Even though the commercial broadcasts the statutory warning with the ads, kids still try to imitate the stunts at the home. Nowadays, many of the service providers like Time Warner Cable have options and services where they have channels that have no advertisement. But still advertisement remains a major factor that influences the behavior and the purchasing power of children. Thus you can say that the power of advertisement cannot be ignored.

Being a freelance writer and active blogger, Mark likes to share his thoughts with the rest of the world and to sources out some great deals of Time Warner Cable. As per him, advertisements are the medium that can influence people of all ages.
