Healthy Tv Viewing Lifestyles For Adults And Children

Watching TV is an integral part of our lifestyle. They are the least expensive by any measure; no expenditures on fuel, buying tickets to movie halls or even wasting time driving on congested roads. Since they are very easy to access and cost us much as I discovered ordering one of the Cox deals for my home. But then getting them easily is also one of the reasons why we spend too much time before our televisions. In fact even children pick up the habit very early in their growth phase. It appears that children nowadays tend to spend more time before the television when they are supposed to be playing sports out in the field.
Television is unavoidable but the time our children and we spend before it is controllable by bringing some changes to our lifestyle. TV viewing can be addicting for some children, and can be counterproductive for their development in future. Children tend to pick up vices from within the family and the best way to avoid that from happening is to set a good example yourself. The first step toward changing your TV viewing habit is to have a schedule with viewing hours clearly defined. Technological changes are making that possible with advanced DVRs that can record and keep programs for as long as 72 hours and if have a high end DVR it can be even more. Having a schedule ensures that you don’t from program to program ending up having spent more time than the quota you allotted to yourself.
It is in human nature to consume snacks while watching TV and they tend to be high fat foods that can make you obese. So try eating more of homemade snack that are very lean on fat. More than snacks you can replace it with fruits and even some vegetables that can be eaten raw, carrots for example. They fill your stomach fully and are full of nutrients. Why not you try it out? After all a couple of carrots or even oranges don’t really make a big difference to the total calories you partake.
Don’t glue yourself to the couch watching TV. Walk around as much as you can, preferably every thirty minutes or even oftener. If you thought that was impossible; don’t forget that technology can come to your rescue. There are ways to stream videos to handheld devices like iPOD, iPAD, Smartphones etc. that can do the trick for you. Of course you will need some extra service like a broadband internet connection, but it is worth spending for a healthier lifestyle. Why not consider doing some exercises while watch TV. It is like hitting two birds with one stone. What more can you ask for?
If you have children, especially toddlers then you have to be doubly careful about how you introduce them to television. They can be far more addicting than they are on adults. Once hooked, children, remember, and are difficult to be taken off bad television viewing habits. Here are some tips that will inculcate the right TV viewing habits in children.
a.Give children access only to programs that you consider as appropriate. Say no to violence at any cost.
b.Set the viewing time limits. 14/16 hours a week is just fine. You can go up a little as your children grow older.
c.Be with your children when they are watching TV. Guide them by telling what is good and what they need to keep away from. If you cannot be there all the while, set parental control accordingly.
d.Diversify content as much as you can. Keep programming fresh as much as you can. And finally don’t forget to share emotions with your children.
