The Important Of Effective Gopher Control

The importance of effective gopher control
In real life, gophers are not the cute, cuddly and friendly creatures they are depicted as in children's story books. Yes, all creatures have value, but when it comes to safety gophers are a true hazard. They can cause extensive damage to property very quickly, destroying grass, soil, roots, and plants very quickly. But the potential for damage from gophers isn't just contained to property damage. Gophers also carry diseases that can be very dangerous for humans. Effective gopher control is an absolute necessity if you want to keep your family and your land safe and healthy. That's where gopher exterminators come in.
Essentially, there are two gopher control methods: trapping and poisoning. Trapping is, of course, the most humane way of getting rid of gophers and it is always the first line of defense for any good exterminator. Sometimes, however, trapping is not the most effective method of controling gophers. In cases where there are many gophers present poison may be a better option, lest there will be more damaged caused before all of the gophers can be trapped. Poisoning ...
... gophers should never be done at home, however. Only a licensed professional should ever undertake this endeavor, so always call a gopher exterminator to do this. Remmeber that gophers carry disease, so getting too close could pose a biting risk that could lead to infection and disease. Spraying poison may not be an option in some cases, however. Particularly in cases when the area being sprayed contains crops that are intended for consumption, it is not feasible to spray with harmful chemicals, of course. In cases like that, trapping is the best option.
Before you can get rid of gophers, you first have to find them. That may seem obvious, but think about it: Because gophers burrow underground, it can be very difficult to ascertain the location of their burrows. To do this, exterminators will typically use a probe that will be able to "feel" into the ground to locate the burrows. This is a necessary step because it is in the burrows that one will want to place the traps. Another way to locate the gopher burrows is by looking for the "plugs" are. A plug is a covered opening that a gopher digs as a way into the ground to start a burrow. This is usually an indicator of the main burrow that a gopher has dug. Typically, a gopher will dig one primary burrow and then dig several secondary burrows branching off from it. It is usually a good idea to put the trap in the primary burrow and cover it with loose soil so that it will not be immediately detected by the gopher. If, after a few days there are no gophers in the trap it's a good idea to move it to another location and try again.
Gopher control should be undertaken by a professional.
