Mri Parts: Everything You Need To Know About It
Before the discovery of MRI, it was X-Ray that was widely used for finding out what is wrong inside the body. Although doctors were able to find out what was dislocated but many a times it was not clear due to some or the other reason. After the remarkable discovery of MRI all the issues faced by X-Ray came to an end.
It is one of the most remarkable discoveries of medical science. It stands for Magnetic Resonance imaging which is actually a method to look inside the body without a surgery, harmful rays like X-Rays. The mechanism of radio waves is applied over here in order to produce the clear pictures of human body. It was discovered in 1930s under thename nuclear magnetic resonance by Paul Lauterbur and Peter Mansfield by using the principle of the magnetic fields and radio waves causing the atoms to give off tiny radio signals.
It is based on the physical and chemical principles of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), a technique used to gain information about the nature of molecules. The machine used for it comprises of the following component:
The primary magnet:The largest part is the primary magnet. ...
... Developing a magnetic field of adequate strength to create images was an early hurdle to overcome in the development of this technology.
The gradient magnets:The gradient magnets are the fine-tuning parts of the machine. They allow focusing on a specific part of the body. They are also responsible for the clanging noise.
The coil: Next to the part of your body being imaged is the coil. There are coils made for shoulders, knees, and other body parts. They emit a radiofrequency that makes a MRI possible.
With a patient in the machine, and the magnet turned on, the nuclei of the hydrogen atoms tend to spin in one of two directions. These hydrogen atom nuclei can transition their spin orientationor to the opposite orientation. In order to spin the other direction, the coil emits a radiofrequency (RF) that causes this transition. The frequency of energy required to make this transition is specific, and called the Larmour Frequency.
The signal that is used is derived from the energy released by molecules transitioning from their high-energy to their low-energy state. This exchange of energy between spin states is called resonance, and thus the name has been derived. We shall assist you searching for the MRI Parts including the coils.
