You may come across many organizations which have their private network and related IP address which is solely meant for the internal usage within the company. 192.168.1.1 is an IP address that is ranged between the private addresses from 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255.

This private IP is very useful as you can use them a number of times in different networks. And this usage can be done all a time. Therefore there is no problem as such if two of you wish to use the same IP address on two different networks at the same time.

But there are disadvantages as well. You will not be able to route these IP addresses. They can be only used through the internet connection with the assistance of the Network Address Translation (NAT).

This 192.168.1.1. IP address is used as a default IP by some of the networking services like LinkSys. This router uses 192.168.1.1. as a default one. This is the reason they face certain difficulties which leads to various inconvenience of the users. The problem occurs when two different devices are using the same IP at the same network which is not an allowed application for this particular ...
... private IP.

This means two devices in two different networks-possible; but two devices in the same network-not possible. This emerges as a major disadvantage when you have many users using the same IP in various computers. This is the reason the big companies with quite a number of employees can n not use this conveniently. Every time you add up a new user you will have to make sure that no one else is using the same one. So this is going to take a lot of time and calculations.

This particular IP address can be incorporated by the manufacturer of the computer but this is not impossible to change it according to your convenience. This is generally used for the local networking purposes and there are many small organizations and individuals who are using this and reaping the best possible benefits.

But make sure the usage of a particular IP from the range of 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255. is not being used by more than one user which is a prohibited application for the 192.168.1.1. private IPs range.

There is a special RFC 1918 that describes three of the total IP address ranges that include 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255, 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255 and 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255.
