Crack The Cet For Admissions To Engineering Colleges In Mumbai

Mumbai, the city of dreams to many, is the seat of higher education in Maharashtra. Some of the best colleges in the country are located in this city. The city’s higher education feature a list of top ranked institutes of technical learning. The admissions to numerous engineering colleges in Mumbai are through Common Entrance Test. This year’s common entrance test (CET) for Maharashtra is slated for May 10, 2012.
According to reports, more that 3-lakh students will sit for this entrance exam. The CET will be conducted in this year at 867 test centers. More than 55, 000 candidates will try their luck in the medical health science course while a whopping 1.20 lakh will take the engineering course test. About 1.63 students will attempt all the science subject papers- Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology.
The director of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research, Pravin Shingare said gave the reason why candidates are appearing in all the science papers. He explained that medicine competition is tough and so students are taking admissions in both engineering and medicine.

... year, this year there is a rise of 11% in test takers. Also, there is a change in the exam appearing pattern. Most the exam takers last year were from the city of Mumbai. Last year, the number was around 1.52 lakh, which is reduced to half and stands at about 13,000.
The director also mentioned that students might receive copies of their answer sheets and question papers from this year.
The CET for the state of Maharashtra is conducted by the Technical Education Department. This department aims to train professionals who can contribute to socio-economic department of the country. This department is responsible for establishing engineering colleges in Mumbai and other cities of Maharashtra.
In the year 2000, the department of technical education of Maharashtra established 129 Engineering Colleges and 154 polytechnic colleges. Besides engineering colleges, it also established 45 Pharmacy Colleges and 157 technical institutes.
This number almost doubled in the year 2010 with the state of Maharashtra boasting of 309 engineering college and 387 polytechnic colleges. The department also established 400 technical institutes offering a variety of postgraduate courses.
The following types of courses are available in Engineering colleges in Mumbai and other colleges in Maharashtra:
• Post Graduate Degree Course in Engineering and Technology
• Degree Course in Engineering and Technology
• Diploma in Engineering and Technology
Students interested in engineering can join part time degree or diploma courses in engineering. There are also colleges, which provide engineering education through correspondence.
With the advancement in engineering learning and technology, the engineering colleges in Mumbai and other cities of Maharashtra are introducing new programs. The demand from students and looking at the emerging areas, engineering colleges are offering non-conventional courses as well. The colleges offer diploma and degree programs in Computer Technology, Industrial Electronics, Bio-medical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Production Engineering and Construction Technology to name a few.
