Know What to Look For

As the bed bugs picture on our website shows, generally the adults are reddish-brown in color, but these bugs can range slightly in hue, depending on the current stage of growth. This can mean coloring from whitish or light tan to a deep orange-brown. Bed bugs appear flatten and oval in shape between feedings, but will puff up after eating looking like a slightly swollen version of themselves. They are about a quarter of an inch in length, so, while they can easily hide in very small areas, they are visible to the naked eye.

If you see something that seems to fit this description near your ...
... bed, it is important not to panic. Other bugs can choose to hide out along the edges of mattresses and in the bedroom vicinity for simple warmth. So, be sure that you are actually dealing with bed bugs before you get overworked.

If you are unsure, then you can always inquire with a New Jersey pest control company. However, as a general rule, looking for dark brown fecal stains around the seams of the mattress and on the wall beside the bed can be a good sign of trouble.

Bed bugs will make a home near the beds most often used in the home, because they represent regular feeding opportunities. The small pests will hide in cracks and crevices of the mattress or box spring, in nearby drawers or in the dark areas behind the headboard during the day, as they are nocturnal.

Where Do They Come From

A nomadic creature by nature, bed bugs love to take trips in luggage, backpacks, and briefcases. This is the species’ way of ensuring survival, by expanding the colony to new feeding grounds. In fact, bed bugs can even travel in a person’s clothing.

Keep Them Away

Are you having an overnight guest? Are you returning home from a hotel or from a college dorm? Even the cleanest homes and establishments are susceptible to bed bug infestation, so it is wise to inspect luggage, clothing, bags, coats, and purses. In addition, regularly check bedding and nearby furniture in your own home and any place you stay overnight. When carrying luggage home, never place the bags directly on the bed and another important tip to abide by is to be very careful when buying used furniture. This is particularly true of mattresses that may already be hosting the critters.

Found Some Trying to Sneak In?

If found in bags or on clothing, take immediate action to trap the pests in plastic bags and wash the infested clothing as soon as possible. Wash and dry them at the highest possible temperatures or take them in for dry cleaning. It is also wise to thoroughly vacuum and scrub the luggage and bags to remove any eggs that may be present. If they are spotted on our around your bedding, then it is highly advised that you make an immediate call to the bed bug control experts at Ross Environmental Solutions.

Trying to get rid of the pests on your own is nearly impossible, so it is best to call a bed bug exterminator in New Jersey before the problem gets out of hand.
