You can also incorporate cream cheese, sour cream and potatoes. You can make a pierogi egg free and dairy free if you want to. The filling of a pierogi can be made with or without meat. A pierogi can be savory or sweet.
Roll the pierogi dough to a thickness of one eighth of an inch. Cut out three inch circles in the dough. Place filling in the center of the dough. Fold over the dough and crimp the edges to seal in the filling. Cook the pierogi by frying, boiling or baking.

Large pierogies were made for weddings. These were usually filled with chicken and also called kurniki. You can even find Polish food recipes that call for baking the food.
