The Fundamentals Of Great Website Design

You don’t have to be a web design guru to know a bad site when you come across one. It’s usually pretty easy to tell when someone with limited experience has tried to hobble together a website, failing to realize that the poor design principles could cost them business. It doesn’t take much for a customer to instantly give up on a website and go somewhere else, and that means that you must incorporate several key elements to make sure that your site is attractive to everyone walks through your virtual front doors.
The first thing you have to do is make sure that your website is pleasing to the eye. Color plays a large part in making your site look appealing, so try to use colors that complement one another, as well as making sure that they are not too bold and bright. Any text that is on your site should be easy to read, so be sure to pick a good font and stick with it throughout your site. You should also make sure that the design and layout is the same on every page so that visitors don’t think they have left your site at any point.
Navigation is also incredibly important to a website, and if customers ...
... can’t find what they want in a couple of mouse clicks, they will leave. Make your menu clear and easy to understand, and again, make sure that it is in the same location on every page. Part of making your menus and text easy to read is by using proper grammar and making sure that all of your spelling is correct. Proofread everything that you put on your pages, as misspelled words and badly constructed grammar will lower the level of professionalism on your site.
They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, but of the images you use on your site are substandard or even flash-based, they will be worth zero. Flash images in particular are distracting and can actually make your load time slower. People don’t want to sit and wait for your site to load up just so that they can see a fancy flash intro that does nothing to enhance their experience on your site. By all means add images, but make them high quality and unobtrusive.
Finally, be sure to add a “Contact Us” page so that your visitors know how to get a hold of you if they have any questions or comments regarding your website. Make sure that the link to the page is included in your menu and is in a location where it is easily visible. If you follow all the simple tips mentioned above, then you should end up with a website that is presentable and easy to navigate. The easier you make it for your visitors to find what they came looking for, the more likely they are to return and recommend you to other people.
