Gloves for food service workers play an important role in eliminating contamination. Germs and diseases can easily be transferred from food to the human skin and lead to an outbreak. However, business owners should be aware that there are several steps to keeping a facility clean and preventing any kind of contamination.

Following Logic

Most precautions used in the food service industry are based on simple logic that people would follow in their private meal preparations. The vast majority of individuals will wash their hands prior to making any type of meal. Furthermore, most people will wash their hands after handling raw meat or any kind of raw food that leaves something behind on the hands. The goal for a food service company should be to set up a barrier to prevent the spreading of germs.

Use of Gloves

Although some states do not require employees of a food service to always wear gloves, many companies have adopted the policy anyways. Specialty gloves for food service make it much easier to ensure safe food handling. ...
... It also projects a better image to the general public.

However, workers need to take a few steps to make sure they don’t fall into a sense of false security with the use of gloves. Gloves are merely a tool that needs to be used correctly. For instance, people need to avoid touching their own skin or hair with a glove. A glove cannot be simply washed off. People should also dispose of gloves for food service after use since they were not intended for multiple uses.

People with long fingernails or multiple rings should always wear gloves. Fingernails and jewelry can harbor numerous types of bacteria and germs. Without protective gloves these germs can be easily transferred to the food.

Proper Training

Employees also need to be properly trained in their duties. Understanding the various rules and regulations for handling food is not always intuitive. In order to make sure the company stays in compliance with the laws business owners should invest in a proper training method. Having everyone taught the same material, in the same manner, will help the company have a sense of uniformity in its operations.

A proper training method does not have to involve expensive classes or materials. It can be as simple as designating one or two individuals as the primary trainers for any new employee. This allows the company to rely on its best workers to teach the new staff about the best practices for the organization.

The goal of any food service operation is to make money. Companies can develop a strong base of clients by either offering something unique to the area or providing a low cost item that is enjoyable. Regardless of the business model, all of these companies rely on cleanliness and the proper use of gloves for food service.
