TEFL course is a course for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. It has been created by the American TESOL Institute, ATI, to groom teachers for teaching English to people for whom it is a foreign language. TESOL is an acronym for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. There are 2 terms under this umbrella – TESL & TEFL; Teaching English as a Second Language & Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
TESL will be useful if you wish to teach English to people who speak it as a second language, the mother tongue being their first language. Whereas, TEFL course is perfect for teaching those people who do not speak English on a daily basis. The TESOL course offered by ATI covers both these aspects.
ATI is a globally recognised institute for its pioneer work in TEFL courses. A TESOL or TEFL Certification will make you eligible to teach anywhere in the world. In today’s global market, the demand for English is ever-increasing, especially in the South-East of Asia. Countries like China, Japan, Thailand and Singapore offer high remuneration to people holding a ...
... TEFL certification. The prospect for ESL (English as a Second Language) jobs has never been this good. Not only does it make you eligible to work abroad, but it also significantly increases your chances of getting an ESL job abroad. The TESOL course also makes you well-suited for an ESL job in countries where English is the main language, like the U.K & the U.S.A. These countries need teachers who can teach English to the immigrants who wish to settle there &, therefore, need to learn the language.
ATI offers you the freedom to do this course from the comfort of your home through the online or distance mode of the TESOL course. You are given ample time to finish it & the work load is very light. You can continue your job or studies and work on the course in your free time. This would not have been possible if you were doing a similar, full-time course.
The Diploma TESOL course is broken down in to 9 segments or phases. You will need to finish the assignments for each phase before moving on to the next one. You are given around 12 days to finish each phase. The last one, Phase 9, is a research paper. Upon successful completion of all the phases you will be awarded a Diploma in TESOL. The Diploma course is of 160 hours. You are given 6 months to finish it but if you study hard, you will be able to wrap it up in 2-3 months.
If you don’t want to do the research paper, or Phase 9, you can opt for the Certificate in TESOL course. It is of 120 hours & includes Phases 1-8. This certificate is mandatory if you want to teach English abroad.
