They can appeal to those who want to compete against others by having a hot dog eating contest. This is one way, but there is also another that works better - they can appeal to individual competitors who want to try every single hot dog they have. They can have many different types and then give the person a hot dog trophy for trying every type of hot dog there is. This is a good way to go about this type of marketing because the person again, has a positive image of the place - they won a hot dog trophy and they tried a bunch of different hot dogs.

This concept in giving a trophy is better than the hot dog eating contest because some of those who come away from that contest will have a negative view of the hot dog stand. Because they will be sick from eating too many hot dogs. When appealing to those from a competitive angle in marketing and offering a trophy, you are better to appeal to the main motivating factor, which is their sense of pride.
