The NFL has had a busy off-season, with teams signing up free agents at a rapid rate. The problem is: are these free agents going with the right teams? Ideally, free agent players should sign up to join teams where they are actually going to be able to fit in, where they will not have to fight with other players for targets or touches, where they will not have to sit behind another player on the depth chart, and where their talents are actually going to be used to the full.

Why would a running back want to join a team that passes the ball the great majority of the time? Why would a wide receiver want to join a team that employs a run-first offense? Why would a kicker choose to become part of a squad that is the lowest scoring in the entire league?

When free agents make choices that are clearly based more on money than on what will be best for his stats, owners of fantasy football leagues tend to get thoroughly bent out of shape. The off-season has proved to be rather frustrating for football aficionados due to the fact that a number of players signed up with teams that are clearly not going to help to enhance ...
... their fantasy value.

Mario Manningham, newly signed to the San Francisco 49ers, is a prime example of this. While moving on from his third banana status in the New York Giants was a wise move, why sign with a team that rarely throws long, or even at all?

Top 5 Running Backs To Avoid

Although wide receivers and quarterbacks have at last managed to break into the first round in the great majority of fantasy football drafts over the course of the last few years, running backs are still vitally important in creating a strong squad. Players such as Arian Foster and Adrian Peterson continue to be drafted in the first three to five picks, but there are some running backs that could end up being seriously overvalued this coming season.

Jamaal Charles from the Kansas City Chiefs is perhaps the number one running back that fantasy owners should do their best to avoid in upcoming drafts. Despite the fact that Charles tore his ACL early on in the 2011 season, some experts believe that the likelihood of him ever returning to being the player he once was is remote.

Darren McFadden from the Oakland Raiders is another running back to be avoided, some believe. When healthy McFadden is admittedly something of a PPR goldmine, but the problem is that he has been anything but healthy recently, having not yet played a whole 16 game schedule due to one health issue or another. His injury history makes it very unlikely that he will stick around for the whole of the upcoming season.

Reggie Bush from the Miami Dolphins did have a surprisingly productive year in 2011 after having never quite managed to live up to what was expected of him in New Orleans, but thanks to changes in the team Bush is now the only remaining legitimate play maker and defenses will be all out to stop him this year.
