Comparing Maruti Ertiga to Renault Duster would be similar to comparing a camel to a horse. Both can run fast and carry people if attached to a cart. The only difference is the terrain that both cater to. Renault Duster is a camel that can withstand the sand and overcome any terrain while Ertiga is like a horse that cannot be put to test in any terrain. Thus it is a comparison between a big sized MUV and a mighty SUV. But the comparison is worth as in India, SUVs are synonymous with MUVs. This is the reason why Mahindra Jeep SUV was used for carrying people and so is Mahindra Thar used for the same purpose.
Which is more charming Renault Duster or Maruti Ertiga?
Look wise both the cars are different. Where Ertiga has a boxy look with an emphasis on headroom even at the third row, the Duster stresses more on the power delivery. The front too of the two is quite different and unmatched. Where Ertiga has a quite serene look, Duster has to appear robust and mighty with its proportions. How about power?
Ertiga which is scheduled to be launched on April 11 will be available in petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol is expected to be 1372cc, K-Series which will output 94 bhp power. The diesel motor on the other hand will be a 1.3 L multijet type and will be 88 bhp engine. Thus we have a 94 bhp and 88 bhp power in Ertiga. Talking about Duster, it will have a diesel engine under the hood with a power of 110 bhp which is far above Ertiga. As MUV 94 or 88 bhp is ok and 110 bhp for Duster as SUV can be said to be sufficient. Besides, Ertiga engines will stress on mileage while Duster will emphasize more on power delivery and a decent mileage.
What about price and value for money?
Ertiga and Duster will be launched at almost the same price in the range of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh. Since both belong to different segment there is no price comparison. Since in India the MUV and SUV segments overlap Ertiga will the race as far as value for money and brand value is concerned. Still those who need French SUV will certainly for Renault Duster. Ertiga is coming this April 11 while Duster launch has been slated this Diwali. This in order of appearance as well, Ertiga will establish itself by the time Duster or other MUVs such as Chevrolet Enjoy comes in.
