American Crew is a brand of men's grooming products, which has taken the world by storm. The product line was only established in 1994. They began by selling primarily to men's salons. However, they became so popular so quickly that it was logical to begin selling direct to the public.

The founder of American Crew, the stylist David Raccuglia, believed so much that there was a emerging market for men's grooming products that he sought finance before he had even produced a single product. There is a famous story whereby he walked into a Chicago distributors' office asking for $25,000 to produce the first run of American Crew products. In his hand he had a bottle of maple syrup, which, when the distributor asked to try it, he had to explain was only representative of what he proposed to produce. He must have impressed them because he got the finance and began to produce shampoo soon after.

The American Crew Concept

The founders of the company realised that despite the demise of men's barbers industry during the 80s and 90s there was still a market for men's ...
... grooming products. They notice that more and more salons were offering hairdressing and beauty services to men. This indicated to the founders that demand was growing and it was time to get in on the market and produce something that was really suitable for men.

They were spot-on. The way in which they grabed such a huge share of the market was to produce high-quality products. These products are specifically developed to work on men's hair and skin rather than women's. The product lines packaging was also designed to appeal primarily to men.

Where to Buy American Crew

Because the majority of men's grooming was taking place in salons initially, the company marketed only to the salon market. However, when salon clients started asking where they could buy the range the company realised they needed to branch out and do so quickly.

American Crew decided that the best way to supply the public with their products was to do so online. Today, you can buy their full range of men's grooming products from a range of websites across the world.

The Modern Man website sells the full range of American Crew men's grooming products as well as many other high-quality products from other companies.
