Knowing ahead of time what you are moving and what you are discarding or giving away and having that all done before you start to pack will make that step easier as well. Make yourself a check list of all the things you need to get done that way nothing is forgotten or missed.

Obtain a moving estimate in writing prior to hiring a mover, and be sure to check their licensing and insurance to ensure they are current. You can check with the Better Business Bureau and most local trade associations. Be sure to ask friends, family, and coworkers any movers they may have used in the past with good results.

It is not wise to try and hide them in other boxes and not properly labeled. If the moving company is not aware of these items and a box is damaged or lost, they cannot be held responsible. Honesty is the best policy and keeping your valuables close at hand is your best insurance that they will arrive at your destination.
