Telecommunications Hull
The telecommunications Hull industry is a bit different to that in the rest of the UK. In 1902, Hull City Council was granted a licence, under the Telegraph Act, to provide a municipal telephone system for the city's residents. This was the norm for most of the UK's cities. However, over time the telephone companies in all of other UK cities were bought up by The Post Office Telephone division that later became BT (British Telecom). Today Hull is the only city in the UK that does not have its infrastructure provided by and maintained by British Telecom.
The Challenge of Telecommunications Hull
For many years, whilst phone users in the rest of the UK enjoyed a choice of providers users of the telecommunications Hull service did not get a choice. They had to buy their phone services from the only provider available. However, because of monopoly laws and a change of heart on the part of the company that maintains the phone network infrastructure in Hull that has now changed.
The first company to take advantage of this change was Nexus. Since 2009, they have been offering consumers alternative call packages. ...
... In 2011, they expanded their operation to include broadband. They have recently put together a mobile package for their business clients, so that they can fulfil all of their telecommunications needs with them. This approach has proved popular with their clients who enjoy having a one-stop shop for all of their telecommunications needs. However, Nexus has not forgotten that private individuals and sole traders also need a choice, so they still provide services tailored for them too.
The Future is Bright for the Telecommunications Hull Industry
Despite the recession the telecommunications Hull industry is very positive about the future. The fact that the ability to stay in touch is so important to private individuals as well as businesses the telecommunications industry is not likely to see demand for their services fall. The industry in Hull sees the current climate as a challenge, but believes it presents opportunities too. Nexus in particular is planning to expand what they have to offer and develop new packages and offers.
