Make The Most Of Hotel Stays

Just because you purchase cheap airplane tickets and discount hotel rooms or cheap vacation packages does not mean that you should not do whatever possible to score a better hotel room.

“Better” is in the eye of the guest. Some guests prefer larger rooms whereas others want accommodations on a high level of a building for the view while still others view the best rooms in a hotel being on the first or second floor for easy and quick access.

The following are ways to improve your hotel stay:

• Before settling on a specific hotel find out if the hotel is being renovated and what events will be going on during your stay.

• Always go out of your way to be polite and kind to your hotel’s front desk staff. Let them know immediately if something is not right with your room. A quality hotel not only wants you to be satisfied, but actually happy with their rooms.

• Upon check-in at your hotel explain why you are traveling and ask if they have any flexibility in the type of room they can assign you. Often a room with a view costs little, if anything, extra.

• Don’t be reluctant ...
... to ask for free benefits. Sometimes resort fees can be removed. Coupons for free drinks and even free meals are occasionally available. Sometimes Wi-Fi and movie charges are waived or discounted upon request.

• When your visit is marking a special occasion, whether it be an anniversary or a birthday, alert the hotel that you will be marking a milestone. Call the hotel a couple of days before your arrival and speak to the manager. The result could be complimentary flowers, hors d’oeuvres or a bottle of wine waiting for you when you check in.

• If you are given a room that you particularly like, write down the room number or better still put the information in your smartphone. Next time you stay at the same hotel you will know which room best suits your needs.
