For a poster board to provide value on the cost, there are some characteristics which are extremely important and have to be looked for. Top manufacturers of poster boards don't just provide attention grabbing models but also boards which are sturdy, reliable and resilient. Firstly, you will need boards that suit your requirements very specifically. That is why these boards, whether they are grid boards, black and white boards, double sided boards or neon boards, are available in several different dimensions with lengths ranging from 8.5 inches to over 22 inches and width ranging from 11 inches to over 28 inches. The customization in sizes makes sure that the board gives you the kind of surface that you can make the most use of.

A good quality poster board should have a protective coating which will make it water and fade resistant. That way you can mount the boards outdoors as well, especially when there is humidity in the air or it is very bright outside. When you have something printed on the smooth surface of the board directly, you would want the surface to be fade resistant as well. The other alternative ...
... is to have a smooth backing on which you could stick up a neon laser paper or a heavyweight, 300 gsm paper, that can be changed when the display isn't required anymore. A quality board should also open up the option of displays on either side when required.

A very interesting characteristic feature seen in certain boards is the presence of fine grids. A fine grid on the poster board is a very interesting addition particularly because it guides you when you are sketching something on the board or pinning up sheets of paper or photos. For the boards to be useful for art and craft projects as well as for marketing and ad campaigns you need them to be resistant to heavy duty usage and sturdy enough, not to be warped or bent. High quality boards are usually consistent in terms of shape and can be preserved and used whenever required without worrying about dimensional stability of the boards.

You can go for a poster board in primary colors or one with bright neon colors, sometimes different ones on either side of the board. Some boards come in assortment of colors to give you a brighter and much more noticeable board for announcements and posters. A very interesting feature of these boards is the availability of additional accessories such as borders, laces, stickers and contrasting letters which can prove to be useful in making the boards even more noticeable. Beautiful contrasting borders especially of lace can be quite useful in adding some beauty to the boards especially when you need something bright for the space around. Some boards come with scores so that they could be folded along those lines for creating multiple panels. Display boards made of recycled material are made for heavy duty usage with a 2-ply thickness and great endurance. Pre-scored, foldable boards are useful but lightweight at the same time.
