Giving A Baby Shower Gift
Sometimes it's hard to decide what to give as a baby shower gift. If they have a baby registry, then it's easy, you just pick out what they want. If you want to give something extra that is special, or if they don't have a registry, it can be hard to think of something that is unique but useful. Follow these guidelines and you should have no trouble finding something for the new special baby!
Give them a financial gift. You might not think of a savings bond as something special for a baby, but it could come in handy later on, especially when it comes time for them to go to college. You can give them a savings bond. They come in denominations of $50 and up. You can buy electronic bonds, but for a baby gift it would be easier to purchase a certificate at a bank. You could also give a share of stock. You can buy one share of stock such as Disney and get the fancy certificate framed. Maybe you'll spark a trait of investing in them as they grow up when they want to find out what it is and what it means. You can also give them a piggy bank, maybe with some cash inside to start them off. This way you can give them ...
... a chance to save and teach them about money.
Give them a personalized gift. You can personalize just about anything these days. If you give them a baby blanket, stuffed animal, picture frame, or plate, have it personalized. It will hold special meaning to them when it has their name on it. You might still have something you received as a baby that had your name engraved or printed on it. It's something special that they can cherish.
Give them something practical. If you need to give a gift to someone that doesn't have a registry and maybe you know they are having trouble affording the new baby, give them something practical. You can be as basic as diapers or extravagant as a fancy stroller, bed, or baby carrier. If you give them something they can use, they will really appreciate it. Try to pick out something you know they will like that will match their style. Use their favorite colors or colors that will match the gender of the baby.
If you don't know them well, you might want to give them supplies such as baby formula, bottles, bibs, or diapers. These can be used up so it doesn't matter what they look like. Baby clothes are another great item to get. You can never have too many baby clothes. Try not to get them all infant clothes because the baby will grow. Get them an array of sizes. Also, try to keep in mind the season. If they are going to be born at the end of spring, don't by them infant winter clothes, just because the shower is being held in the winter. By the time they need to use the clothes, the baby won't fit into them.
The best way to shop for a baby gift is to give according to the mother's needs. If they have everything, you might want to go the financial route. If they have nothing, be practical. Having a baby is an exciting time. Give them something they will appreciate!
