Wayanad is a fine little destination tucked away in the higher regions of the picturesque Western Ghats in the state of Kerala. The region offers tourists a glimpse of Indian rural life in its original settings thus, offering them a unique experience like none other. The hill station with its rustic surroundings, paddy fields, serene and peaceful ambience acts as the perfect destination for tourists looking for an escape from the urban jungle and the stress and chaos following it. The region is bestowed with rich natural beauty which keeps tourists mesmerized, making them return to this mystical destination over and over again. The region is believed to have derived its name from two Tamil words (Vayal + Naad), Vayal meaning Paddy field and Naad meaning land thus, literally meaning land of the paddy fields. Another popular belief behind the name of the region is that, it was once known as Mayakshetra (Maya’s Land) from where it evolved to Mayanad and finally to Wayanad.

Tholpetty, Jain Temple, Edakkal Caves, Pazhassi Raja’s Tomb, Pookote Lake, sentinel Rock Falls, Kanthanpara Falls, Sunrise Valley and much more.

In addition to sightseeing there are plenty of other interesting outdoor activities offered in the region from enjoying the spectacular views of the region, engaging in various sorts of adventure sports activity like trekking, hiking, nature walks and much more. Tourists can also explore the charming little markets of the region famed for its coffee, tea, cocoa, pepper, plantain and vanilla among others.
