• Check the Brake Rotors – Brakes require clean and smooth surfaces on their rotors in order to operate smoothly. Uneven surfaces in the rotors cause vibrations and brake pedal pulsations. • Check the Brake Fluid Level – This is one of the most important parts of brake repair and maintenance. Ideally, your brake fluid should be changed regularly to cut down on moisture contamination. The level and type of brake fluid that you will need largely depends on the vehicle, but nearly all vehicles are subject to leaks and corrosion that can cause the level of brake fluid to drop. Replace any worn or damage parts of your brake system and replace any lost brake fluid.
• Adjust the Parking Brake – The parking brake on most cars tends to be ignored compared to the rest of the brake system, but it's still important to keep the parking brake in proper working condition. Assume you will need the parking brake at some point, even if you rarely use it.

Just remember that preventative maintenance is a lot easier than brake repair.
