If you go online, chances are you can locate hundreds of smaller dealers that sell SFP transceivers for your company needs, and many will sell these items at a large markup. Some merchants help consumers save, and attract shoppers, by selling their old merchandise as soon as new modules arrive. Regardless of whether you buy the items new, used or at a discount, SFP transceivers will cost a business a couple hundred dollars just to buy them, making them an expensive purchase for anyone.

When To Shop

Most individuals feel that the best time to shop for a new SFP module is when the device breaks down and no longer can deal with the rigors of a stressful workload that can damage its parts. Remember, you should not wait till the last minute to purchase a new SFP product, and the reason is that you wind up paying more for the actual device than if you had done it sooner. Wait till the device starts to show signs of wear and see if you can either replace the part or if you have to purchase a new one altogether to help you sort through different vendor catalogs and find the best deals around. For instance, you may need ...
... a set of new Cisco GLC-T but since you ordered it at the last minute, you may not be able to look around for different merchants or wait till a sale arrives to purchase the needed device. If you decide to wait till the last minute, you could end up purchasing a device at a greater cost and from a company with a less than respectable lineup of transceivers.

What to Look For

Always try to order products from manufacturers that offer viable alternatives to the OEM, as doing so will help you save a great deal of money. You could always purchase items from companies that are beginning to liquidate their two-year or three-year device lineups to make space for the new transceivers that will be arriving. Of course, buying these three-year old lineups does entail a large discount for the buyer, but it also means these Cisco SFP transceivers do come with features that you may no longer require or that are not compatible with your system. People looking to save money on these items should order them either used or avoid getting them from the actual manufacturer to help cut down on the cost.
