The Best Of Formentera Tourism

The smallest Balearic island that is populated is Formentera at 12 miles or 17km only. Tourism in Formentera commenced in the 60s total length. Tourism started there in the sixties when this town became a large hippy community. But with a control on large scale redevelopment on the island, much of its natural beauty has been retained for the current public to enjoy. There is plenty of natural beauty in Formentera with its fine beaches and flora and fauna in their natural habitat.
History
There is substantial evidence of the Bronze Age at Formentera with an ancient burial site found at Ca Na Costa. This implies an island habitation of over 3,500 years before Formentera was occupied by the Romans, Vandals, Moors and Byzantines.
A decline in population resulted from an attack of disease and starvation with a constant slew of pirate attacks. Formentera recovered during the sixties with tourism healing its battered financial state.
The island’s history can be secured at Museu d Etnografia which has plenty of old photographs and interesting exhibits of salt production in town. Some quaint looking shops ...
... and an 18th century church are other attractions at Formentera.
Attractions
There is a main resort, Es Pujols, at Formentera that offers several good bars and restaurants. But visitors are drawn more to Formentera’s beautiful beaches with one or two odd nudists plying them. The many beaches in Formentera allow one to choose their preference for the privacy they desire although the most popular choice is Platya de ses Illetes which is located near La Savina harbor.
There are several great pieces of attraction further north with Espalmador, a tiny island at Punta de Trucadors. Salt lagoons and a nature reserve form some of the best attraction with Platja Migjorn, the biggest beach around and Punta de La Mola as the highest point at 600 ft above sea level which was an ancient 1861lighthouse site.
Activities
There is a myriad of activities that can be enjoyed at Formentera. Its beaches with surrounding crystal clear waters attract sub aqua divers, snorkelers, kayakers and surfers. Cycling and walking are quite popular activities at Formentera which has lots of flat land. There is a strong cultural identity observed through the numerous festivals happening throughout the year; these include May 30th location villa piscine espagne Sant Ferran, July 25th Sant Jaume and December 3rd Sant Francesc Xavier.
