University Strategies For Financially Frail Homeschoolers

Genuine confession - my hubby and I did not do a superb job preparing financially for secondary education. What I mean by that is that we hadn't set aside any funds - or at the very least , not nearly what you will want for room and board, let alone college tuition. We needed a enormous scholarship - a REALLY enormous scholarship.
When you need a big scholarship, you really want to exceed a ordinary college prep plan and try to take some more serious classes. Try to take some demanding AP or CLEP exams. Whatever you do, you have to make sure that you cover the core classes and fundamentals in all areas. Make sure that when it says that instructional math - three to four years, then you are covering instructional math three to four years. But at the same time, you want to try to exceed the highest standards when you can.
A second thing you can do is make sure that you can include all of their early high school credits which illustrates that they have completed beyond the advised amount. There were a number of areas that we were able to go above without ...
... making it seem like it was really challenging work.
Let's think for example that you are the home school parent of a future scholar-athlete, but you are not positive that a full-ride athletic scholarship is in his or her future. You will want to make sure that your learner covers the top suggestions of English, math, and social studies, and that he has four years of those. But then he's also going to try to have four years of science and when it comes to that P. E. section, he may have six credits of P. E. because he's playing baseball and swimming during the very same year.
For my own children, we did meet the average school requirements but my children really preferred the social sciences. My younger son had many years of economics, not just a quarter. I don't recall how many he ended up with, but it was almost certainly six or seven credits in social studies. He studied economics all the time for pleasure, and he also surpassed the fine arts credits because he took piano every year.
Neither one of those things was challenging for him, that was something he really loved doing. In this way he surpassed the minimum and showed that he was passionately interested in a very significant educational subject.
I can't overstress the necessity of having an area of passionate interest when it comes to winning the big merit based awards. In fact, failing to encourage a student's passionate interest is one of "The 5 Biggest Mistakes Parents Make When Homeschooling High School.
