How To Increase Internal Security In Your Company
Internal theft today is a huge problem in an increasing amount of businesses. Where once people took post it notes or pens, today it is computer equipment and other such goods. Since so many people today are without the money they once had, they have turned to taking different items from their job to get what they want or need. Fortunately, this type of theft does not have to affect one’s business if the right security items are put in place.
Even though they are common items to have, one of the most important and useful anti-theft items to place are security cameras. Even though it is good to have them in the customer area and parking lot, they are just as effective when placed in the back parts where the money is handled and the employees work. Most business owners feel the cameras will be met with resistance by the employees, but after a while, they get used to them and almost forget they are even there. Fortunately, they always have the feeling that they are being monitored, and this simple feeling can be a significant deterrent for them. Additionally, cameras can be a good way to keep watch in the case that ...
... a worker’s compensation case or other type of issue arises and is due to significant neglect rather than unsafe working conditions.
While they are not as effective as cameras, a great low cost method of increasing security and visibility is using mirrors. While they normally appear like they are simply used for decoration or to safely see around corners, they can be used in two different ways to keep an eye on things. Large oval mirrors will look like decoration, but ultimately, if they are placed in the right areas, they can provide great visibility from and to areas that are normally difficult to see. Dark corners of places are often where theft occurs since employees know it is hard to see there. Also, placing two-way large round wall mirrors around will help directly monitor places, but also are hard to place right since most companies do not have the ability to see from the other side. Sometimes, it is important to modify a wall to install these, but if not done correctly, it will give away what the owner is trying to do.
Lastly, reliable employees can be used to keep an eye on everyone around. An invisible promotion can be given to them to pay them a little more in exchange for their watch. If theft is more of a problem than just one or two people, then this can become an incentive for all employees to get something extra when turning people in.
