There are many varieties of emergency warning lights which come with different designs, structures and features. They differ in size, shape and technology. For example, externally mounted full length light bars could be very different from internally mounted visor lights not just in size but also in their features. The purposes of these lights are different too. However, there are five attributes of an emergency warning light unit which can greatly enhance its effectiveness. Therefore, top manufacturers usually try to take care of these attributes and pay special attention to them. The first and foremost attribute is the lighting element. Light emitting diodes win the race hands down because of two statistical reasons. The latest generation LEDs, are rated for an operational life in excess of 50,000 hours. They are also highly energy efficient compared to other counterparts.

The next attribute that affects the efficiency of warning lights is the optical assembly. This is comprised of many components. There are clear and colored, tough polycarbonate lenses which enhance the lighting quality. There ...
... are chrome plated parabolic reflectors and reflector assemblies that help in widening the beams. Some warning light units come with wide angle, non-fluted, UV stabilized domes that provide encapsulation along with the important function of widening the beam angle. Then there are optic spreader filters and diamond mirrors which also affect the quality of the beam and the beam angle. All these elements become even more important in case of compact lighting units like dash, deck and visor lights where the lighting is limited.

Another important attribute that affects the success you have with warning lights is the mounting feasibility and flexibility. Even the smallest warning light units come with excellent mounting options for great effectiveness. Without mounting flexibility you cannot realize the full potential of the emergency lighting units. There are many different types of mounting kits such as swivel bracket kits, L and 2-way bracket kits, universal brackets, glass mounts, windshield and surface mount options, Velcro straps and slide bolts. Optional flanges are also provided in some cases. A very impressive accessory is the bail bracket which helps you adjust the orientation of the unit. These can help you maximize the output of light bars and internal lighting products and get the best out of them.

The chassis of the warning light units is another important thing to check. ABS housings, black metal housings usually of extruded aluminum or polycarbonate housing are the three options put to widespread use. The chassis has to be lightweight and yet sturdy enough to dampen the effects of vibration and protect the LEDs. The chassis also has to be thermally efficient to act as a heat sink during missions when the lights are used for long hours. A very important attribute in warning lights is the electronic control module. Solid state electronics are used to program flash patterns into the emergency lighting units so that external flashers are not required. With good control and easy operation, the flash patterns can be effective to enhance visibility of the lights.
