Crib Bedding And Baby Bedding – What To Look For
The joy of a newborn baby can often be complicated by the stress associated with the preparation for the child. There are many items which should be purchased before the child arrives, and one important item is bedding. Purchasing bedding may not sound complex, but there are a few details to consider. Many individuals feel that bedding is simply sheets, blankets and pillows. If only it were that easy.
It is important to buy bedding in which the child will be safe. Blankets need to be the proper size and weight. Pillows should cushion the head properly. Sheets need to fit very snuggly over the mattress. Fortunately, this can be alleviated by purchasing bedding sets. Bedding sets can ensure that the sheet, blanket and pillow are the correct size for the fitting for a baby.
Baby bedding sets are available to such a degree that it can be more difficult to find individual items for your newborn. Bedding sets usually include all of the basic essentials for your child’s crib, and also a few non-necessities. One such non-essential item which is usually included in bedding sets is a crib skirt. This item hangs down ...
... from the crib to the ground giving the crib a complete look.
Another item associated with baby bedding is a crib bumper. In the past, crib slats were wide enough that a child could stick parts of his or her body through the slats and get stuck. The crib bumper solved this by providing a soft buffer zone between the infant and the crib. Currently, all cribs made in North America are now required to have the slats placed close enough together that a baby cannot become stuck.
Still, there are some potential dangers parents should consider when purchasing crib bumpers. It is possible for the baby to press against the bumper while sleeping, and in the process be suffocated. When buying a set, it will often have a bumper in it, be sure to choose wisely when it comes to actually using the item. Some parents prefer bumper pads because they do not want the child to bump his or her head against the crib. However, most health officials agree that the natural movement of a baby makes it nearly impossible for the baby to hit his or her head against the crib hard enough to do any significant damage.
Other items included in baby bedding sets are not necessarily bedding. Many bedding sets will include a diaper stacker in a design that matches the sheets, blanket and pillow. This item can be very helpful and hygienic when it comes time to change the child’s diaper. Toy bags, wall hangings and curtain valences are frequently included in bedding sets as well. All of these items are printed and painted with a common theme in mind which can make your entire nursery come together beautifully.
Overall, the most important aspects to keep in mind when shopping for baby bedding are safety and efficiency. It may seem like a fun and easy task to decorate a nursery; however, there are serious aspects to consider when choosing baby and crib bedding. It is important to include elements that will please the parents as well. If one is going to spend hours in the room changing diapers, reading bed time stories, sitting up at night while the baby cries or just watching the child sleep; then one should at least have comfortable seating, and bedding that both parents will enjoy.
As with many other tasks, it helps to be creative when preparing a nursery. Designs featuring primarily blue and pink have been commonplace for quite some time. Currently, bedding sets are available in various colors and styles, offering parents many options when it comes time to decorate their newborn’s room. For those who love the outdoors, plenty of nature themed patterns are available, such as spring and garden themed bedding. Many bedding sets are focused on animals as well. In this category one could find barnyard animals, a pond theme, butterflies and ladybugs. Bedding for boys often includes sports, outer space or knights and dragons themes; and girls bedding traditionally includes flowers, fairies or princesses.
Another current option available to parents is the type of fabric used in baby bedding. The materials used in baby bedding are usually some combination of cotton and polyester. Some baby bedding is made from 100% cotton and comes in a variety of thread counts. As far as thread counts go, the higher the thread count, the more soft and durable the material tends to be. Egyptian cotton is another option parents have when choosing crib bedding.
Purchasing bedding for an infant is something many parents look forward to. This process can be less stressful if several important aspects are considered, and enough time is taken to find the best option available. Bedding sets can simplify the process, and help to take stress levels down. Crib bedding should be the height of comfort for a baby and for the parents as well.
