Hand, arm and wrist injuries are very common, especially among people who do hard labor on a consistent basis. Sports persons also suffer these injuries very often. The most common hand and wrist injuries include bicep arthritis, bicep tendon injuries, boxers fracture, carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, gamekeepers thumb, ganglion cyst, hand infections, herniated disk, mallet finger, Olecracon Bursitis, nerve injuries, Pronator syndrome, tennis elbow, trigger finger, wrist fractures and many more. You should immediately visit a hand specialist if you experience pain, stiffness, numbness or unseemly growth of tissue on any part of your hand (or wrist) for more than a week. The carpal tunnel syndrome is perhaps the most common and serious hand injury.

The carpal tunnel is a passageway inside the wrist, surrounded by bones and ligaments. It protects the median nerve, a nerve that runs into the forearm. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome occurs when abnormal ...
... pressure is placed on this nerve. It results in decreased hand and finger function, and some individuals may be unable to perform even basic hand functions. The biggest problem is that this syndrome can develop for years, with no noticeable symptoms. However, a burning or tingling sensation in the fingers, which does not reduce, can be the first indication of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. In many cases, the person is able to retain many hand functions and thus does not seek treatment. In some cases, however, the disability becomes serious and requires a visit to a Carpal Tunnel doctor.

The causes of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome are not well defined. However, a Carpal Tunnel doctor can provide some estimate of the possible causes, based on which the type of treatment will be decided. Among the most commonly cited causes of the syndrome is excessive bleeding of the wrist area, development of tumors, and arthritis. Sometimes, congenital abnormalities of the carpal bones can cause the syndrome to occur. Pregnancy, thyroid disease, alcoholism and diabetes also increase the chance of developing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

The simplest form of treatment that a Carpal Tunnel doctor can suggest is periodic resting of the affected hand. For people with a mild syndrome, this is quite effective. Alternatively, the doctor may advise you to wear a splint in your wrist while sleeping so as to keep it upright and still. This considerably reduces the burning and tingling sensations. For people whose syndrome is a result of inflammation in the hand, Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) may be prescribed by the Carpal Tunnel Doctor. Apart from this, spinal manipulation and deep friction massage can reduce the problem considerably.

In extreme cases, the doctor may advise Carpal Tunnel surgery. The Carpal Tunnel surgeon will usually conduct an endoscopic procedure on your damaged wrist. In this procedure, incisions are made on the wrist, and the carpal ligament is divided; then it is glued together and dressed. If you surf online, you can find some websites which offer a lot of information on the best Carpal Tunnel doctors and surgeons.
