The treads found on a rally racer are surprisingly thick so that they can go deep enough into the dirt track to bypass the loose dirt and get something solid that can help push the vehicle forward. Some of the more outrageous off road treads are even thick enough to get a firm grip in deep mud that normal tires would simply slosh around in until they are completely sunk.
