The Four Major Professional League Sports In The United States

United States has a thriving sports culture. Sports and games are almost like a religion here. Every year, thousands and thousands of people flock to the stadiums to watch their favorite teams battle it out. For those not fortunate enough to catch all the action in the arenas, major cable providers like Charter Cable offer seasonal passes to watch them live on their TV. During the sports season, streamers are blown, parties are thrown and the whole neighborhood gathers around the TV to celebrate and support their favorite teams. The contest between fans of opposing teams gets nastier than the competition between the teams themselves.
United States boasts of having many, many individual sports on its list but there are four main team sports that have an insane fan-base following. American football, ice hockey, baseball and basketball are the most popular sports played in the country. The major leagues of these sports- the NFL (national football league), the NHL (national hockey league), the NBA (national basketball association) and the MLB (major league basketball) are worshipped by millions. These four leagues are considered ...
... to be the most imminent professional sports league of all times.
All these sports leagues have a regular game season and then they move onto the playoffs. Friendly pre-season games are also engaged to recover friendly levels or for promotional purposes. These pre-season games are curtain raisers and sometimes may offer overseas tours. Then we move on to the regular season which lasts for a long period of time usually for 8-10 months. Off season is where the players get a holiday and where sometimes, friendly matches are held.
In baseball, the Major League Baseball is divided into two leagues, the national league and the American league. Up until a few years ago, these two leagues were separate entities and merged under the title MLB in the year 2000. The American league and the National league are yet again divided into teams based on the region as East, Central and West. In 2011’s MLB season, there were 14 teams under the American league and 16 leagues under the National league. There is a spring training season that is a part of the MLB held right before the regular season. In the midst of the regular season a three day sporting event called the MLB All-star game which is widely favored. Post season games are playoffs and this where many teams get eliminated.
With the NFL on the other hand, the most widely acclaimed season on the schedule would be the Super Bowl. After the regular season, the teams move on to the playoffs where if selected, they get to play in the Super Bowl tourneys. The regular season lasts for months in the NFL where about 512 matches are held every year. In the NFL, the American football club and the National football club pits out their teams against each other, the best of which would fight for the Super Bowl Championship. During the regular season, six teams from each division are picked out and are sent to the playoffs. Here only the best of the best remain after which, they fight for the Super Bowl championship.
Apart from these two professional leagues, ice hockey and basketball are two other widely acclaimed North American sports. Ice hockey and its professional league, the NHL is in fact immensely popular in Canada. The National Basketball Association and the Major league baseball have also extended their franchisees to Canada. Live viewership for these four professional league games crosses millions every year. Unsurprisingly, the salaries that these professional league players get paid is quite remarkable too.
