Historical Background - Legend goes that Rameswaram is the place where Lord Ramachandra built a bridge to cross over to Lanka (now Sri Lanka). The bridge is popularly known as Ram Setu and Adam’s Bridge across the sea. It was built by Ramachandra and his monkey troop to rescue his wife Seeta from the clutches of Ravana, the King of Lanka.
