Danes or I’d rather say great Danes are giant dogs. They are also known as “Gentle Giants”. They are known for their height. Having a Dane at home any stranger will think twice before entering your house. You can find several heads turning back and looking at you and the dog, when you go out with the Dane outside. Danes are available in various colors like Fawn, Brindle, Black, Blue, Harlequin and Merle.

Danes require a little bit of exercise so I take my Harlequin “Caesar” for long walks. This is a two edged sword. It helps me as well as Caesar. Both of us benefit by this. Keep in mind not to jog with a Great Dane who is less than eighteen months old. If you do so don’t be surprised to find development problems. But they do not require a lot of exercise like German shepherds, Dalmations, Dobermans or any other herding breed. Great Danes have an amazing growth. Yes, but it is not easy to feed and care for a Great Dane. Great Danes are very obedient and can be easily trained. Danes have a good appetite. Make sure to feed them with the best quality of food with enormous nutritional values. Rice, meat (chicken, beef, lamb etc…), eggs, milk, dog food and bones must be given to them. Some people prefer feeding them with raw meat. Few Danes do not like this and it is better to always feed them with food fully cooked or even half cooked. Protein levels in the food are very important to avoid health problems like Pano and Wobblers Syndrome. Hence additional attention should be given to their food. Always choose a dog food by reading the first five ingredients mentioned behind the packet. It would be good if the first five ingredients include turkey, chicken, beef or potato and so on.
