The recreational vehicle (RV) had their origin in the caravans used by various artists to travel and camp from place to place as early as 1810 in France. And more than a century later in the 1920’s the term RV along with the idea of camping and travel was established in North America. We really have quite a rich tradition of RV driving—since for more than a century to date, people have felt the urge to own a mobile home and explore the world around. More recently there’s been a rise in the number of baby boomers joining the RV family.

Why this increase? What are the advantages of the RV lifestyle over traditional living? Those are some of the questions answered here.

The advantages of the RV lifestyle are quite simple really.

1. Saves on Insurance:
Paying for car and home insurance works out to be more expensive than RV Insurance. People used to think that RV Insurance quotes are all too expensive but that’s not the case anymore. Most of the prime RV drivers are 50 years old or more. This makes them eligible to join the AARP. The AARP gets discounted group rates from The Hartford that’s how ...
... many people save on RV Insurance. Even if you add camper insurance, it still works out cheaper than insuring 2 cars and a house, especially with the discounts various insurance agencies offer.

2. Brings family together:
The RV lifestyle has been recommended for families of various ages. Living together in an RV is a completely different experience and an unforgettable one. The privacy might be less but it forces families to interact and care for each other at a deeper level. This helps build relationships that last for years to come. So taking a year off to RV as you home-school your kids and find a way to work from home is not a bad idea. It brings the kids close to nature (and being a little farther from the video-games is not going to hurt them).

3. Saves money on travel and lodging
Remember those times you wanted to go on a vacation with the family but there was nothing that fit your budget? Well one of the pleasures of owning an RV is that the hotel and travel costs are slashed. You can take the RV out and just drive to where you want to be. It might take longer but the journey is more than half the fun. Just a tip though, you can skimp on vacation spots or how far you travel but don’t risk travelling without full coverage RV insurance.

4. The availability of camp grounds makes it easier to explore
It’s so great to be exposed to different cultures in North America. If you have the time, you can travel even further! The tastes, the adventures, the hikes, fishing, camping, photography….the list goes on---there’s something for everyone to explore when you have an RV. Thousands of camp grounds are waiting for you and you might make a friend or two with people who share your hobbies.

It goes without saying that the RV lifestyle is one of excitement and constant change that you can experience from the comfort of your own mobile home. No wonder more and more baby boomers are attracted to it!
