There are many people who see names as very important. Others do not. Where the Cornhole game is concerned there are a lot of people who will not agree to call it anything else. The same is true with the bean bag game. There are others, however, who feel that the bean bag game and the Cornhole game are the same or so close that there is no point in arguing over the small differences. The main difference for people who admit that there is one seems to be based on the fact that the standard Cornhole board is two feet by four feet and the standard bean bag board is two feet by three feet. These people feel that this makes the games different. Some people point out, though, that a lot of Cornhole players actually use the smaller board because it is much more portable. If they use the two foot by three foot board, the Cornhole players can carry their game to get-togethers and parties. It will easily fit in the back of a pickup truck and it will also fit in the trunk of a larger car, or a car in which the back seats fold down. This kind of portability is making the smaller board a more popular option with people who play the Cornhole ...
... game.

Those who play the bean bag game still use the smaller boards as well, because they are considered to be the right size for that particular game. The game bags seem like they are the same, but they are sometimes stuffed with different things. The Cornhole bags were originally stuffed with dried corn and the bean bag toss bags were originally stuffed with dried beans. This explains how the names of the games came about. Now with advances in technology most of the bags are stuffed with plastic pellets, and this holds true for both games. There is good reason for this plastic pellets do not biodegrade like corn and beans do. Beans and corn can break down if they get wet and this is not good for the game or good for the players. This type of issue is why the game players now try to fill their bags with the plastic material.

Another difference between the two games comes from the argument about where they were started. There are many individuals who feel that Cleveland, Ohio was the place that the game started, regardless of what it is called. Others say that it was started in Chicago, Illinois. One school of thought says that the bean bag game began in Illinois and the Cornhole game began in Ohio. Of course, some people do not agree. Germany has even been suggested as a possible starting point for the game. While this seems unlikely there appears to be no end to the arguments both friendly and not so friendly about the perceived differences between the bean bag toss and the Cornhole game.
