Kanpur is one of the famous cities in Uttar Pradesh, the state where Hindi is a commonly spoken language. People belonging to this place are also referred as Hindi community members. Even functions like weddings can be termed as Hindi Matrimony Functions.

The majority of Kanpur’s population belongs from Western and Central part of Uttar Pradesh. Besides, the locals, Bengalis, Punjabis, Rajputs, and Anglo-Indians are also settled in the city, in areas of Tilak Nagar, Swaroop Nagar, Azad Nagar and Civil Lines.

The population of the city comprises majority of Hindus with Muslims making about 15% of the population. Other religious communities like Jains, Sikhs, Buddhists and Christians are also present in small numbers.
