In order to preserve one of these items, make sure you clean the major parts of the player at least once a month using a basic duster, and be sure to play a record or two to make sure it still can run. Depending on the age of the device and type of materials it uses, you always want to clean any wood or brass the player may use to keep the material shiny and looking as new as the day you purchased it. When you do pop an LP in that does not play as it should, you may want to try cleaning it with a VPI record cleaner machine to discard all the dust that may get caught inside the grooves.
