The age on your old vinyl albums appears noticeable; the colors have faded; the cardboard covers are tearing and even the front side of the album is peeling, all thanks to dust and moisture. If you ever hope to make a decent amount of cash on these rare treasures, it might be best keeping them out of the attic and closet and placing them inside a protective case that can seal out the dust. The return on your investment will rest on how much you decide to invest in maintaining the quality of the products, including the old record players you may have.

Dust

No matter how much soot old LPs get on them, most of them can withstand it and can be wiped off with a record cleaner, but the covers cannot be maintained with too much dust. Attics, old closets and any place with high air circulation will cause problems for the cover, and if you decide to set your albums in these areas, make sure they are sealed in some kind of protective cover to keep them safe. Over time, the moisture and heat inside closets, attics and basements can cause the album cover to become discolored, but with a bin, most of the moisture and dust will ...
... not damage the item. You can keep your old collection of Bob Dylan vinyl LPs free of any dust by sealing them in large, plastic storage bins seen at your local department store.

Cleaning

Okay, so a sealed container will do the trick to help preserve the condition of old records, but an aged record player will need more than just a plastic bin to keep it operating like new. In order to preserve one of these items, make sure you clean the major parts of the player at least once a month using a basic duster, and be sure to play a record or two to make sure it still can run. Depending on the age of the device and type of materials it uses, you always want to clean any wood or brass the player may use to keep the material shiny and looking as new as the day you purchased it. When you do pop an LP in that does not play as it should, you may want to try cleaning it with a VPI record cleaner machine to discard all the dust that may get caught inside the grooves.

Cleaning your vinyl records with these products will also help ensure that your albums stay operating for years to come.
