You never see a witch's hat or a rocking horse in a modern playground.

However, today's children have far more choice than we did. You need to choose outdoor play equipment that is suitable for the age groups you are catering for. This may mean buying a variety of equipment and dividing it up into two separate play areas, one for each age group.

Safety has to be a big consideration. You want the playground to be an exciting area that stimulates children, but it also has to be a safe environment.

Outdoor play equipment is not cheap, so needs to be looked at as a long-term investment. By spending a little extra and buying equipment that is made to last and cope with extremes in temperature, you will save yourself money in the end.

Only buy outdoor play equipment that complies with the health and safety rules and regulations of your country. Look for an experienced firm and seek their advice before making any final decisions.
