Beaches Of Lassi

One of the largest Greek Islands which is also one of the largest Ionian Islands is Kefalonia found on the west side of the Greek mainland . Kefalonia can be spelt in many different ways and some of these ways include Kefallinia, Cephalonia and Cephallonia. According to popular belief it is said to be named after Cephalus, a character from Greek Mythology and was the founding head of a great family.
Kefalonia is a stunning island with green grass, blue seas and sandy beaches. It is also immersed in history. The island went under many diverse rulings from Roman, Norman and English possession and was only unified with Greece in 1864 along with the other Ionian Islands.
Tragedy struck Kefalonia in 1953 when a series of catastrophic earthquakes hit the island, one of them recording 7.3 on the Richter Scale. The earthquake destroyed a vast amount of structures and resulted in millions of pounds in damages, and it is said that of the 125,000 that inhabit the island 100,000 left to seek a better life elsewhere.
