Quick Website SEO tips for everyone

I believe in a comprehensive website SEO (search engine optimization) plan, if your website is a marketing tool for your company. While we don't all have the time and money to move forward with a full-fledged SEO plan, there are still a number of actions you can take to ensure better search results, or even just the chance to show up in search results of your choice.

1) Review the Robots.txt file and assess the meta robots tags

2) Review the site CTR by page and revise your worst page's title element and meta description

Although this tip has to do with your conversion click through rate, that should be just as, if not more, important than your search engine results. Search engines these days are not only taking into consideration your validity and relevance, but also the user experience and navigatability of the landing page or website.

3) Analyze your canonicalization of your domain name

Make sure you have a permanent 301 redirect for ALL of your site's web pages. This will ensure that you do not have duplicate content. I can't stress this enough. Duplicate content is a bad thing.

4) Look at the most visited linked pages on your website

You want to make sure not to delete pages that are linked from other websites. Can you imagine if someone has the opportunity to visit your site from somewhere else and they hit a 404 code? Nooo!!! Make sure that if it's permanently deleted that you at least set up a redirect of the page so as not to lose the traffic.

5) Make sure to look for duplicate title elements!

If you look through your Google Webmaster Tools, you can check for duplicate pages, cannibalization and title elements. Make sure to write unique titles or use redirects where needed.

6) Find the strongest links and change your anchor text if necessary

You don't always have to have keyword-rich anchor text, but if you know which links are your strongest. If you find that your strongest links are branded to off-site pages, then you can reach out to the sites and request text changes to non-branded variations.

With these small and simple tips, you can ensure better website SEO results. There are, obviously, a number of other factors that are taken into consideration , but these are a great start when you or your web designer really only have about 15 minutes to play with it.
