Engineers of Fuji and Quantum have worked closely with each other to introduce new advancements to the SDLT-2 tape technology, and make it a high performance storage format. Joint efforts of Fuji and Quantum have helped to develop an innovative application for the broadcast industry. This new application is called “DLT-xchange”. DLT-xchange along with SDLT-600 drive enables the video professionals to utilize file based workflow in HD (high definition) and digital environment.

The recording media of Fuji SDLT-II tape is composed of an ultra fine metal particle layer and a lower non-magnetic layer. Both of these layers are simultaneously applied to the SDLT-II tape’s base film. This media coating process helps to ensure higher recording density, increased output frequency and significantly low self-demagnetization.

Fuji has introduced several other innovative media manufacturing technologies that improve its read/write accuracy and useful life. These new high performance technologies include advanced Tape cutting mechanism, Laser Guided Magnetic Recording and Pivoting Optical Servo (POS). Advanced tape cutting system enhances the accuracy of slitting blades and ensures finely cut half inch tape reel in every Fuji SDLT-2 backup tape. The capacity of Fuji SDLT II tape is increased by the Laser Guided Magnetic Recording technology. This new mechanism creates room for additional data storage by shifting the servo information to the media’s back side. Therefore the front side of the tape remains free for additional encoding tracks. POS (Pivoting Optical Servo) combines the laser servo guidance and magnetic data recording to sustain accurate alignment of tape track during read/write cycles.
