Cheap travel options, including cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages often play a key role in decisions whether to travel. Smart travelers should also do a little research as to which airport they should depart from and land at when multiple airports are available.

The following are a list of major airports best avoided when possible:

Chicago Midway Airport is rated as the country’s worst for on time departures.

JFK Airport Terminal 3, New York City is one of the worst terminals in the United States. It has a deserved reputation for endless immigration lines in a dank basement, with few food or shopping options, three crowded and confusing entry points, and is often less than clean.

LaGuardia Airport, New York City is rated the worst major airport in the United States by both JD Power and Associates and Zagat Survey.

LaGuardia does not offer rail link service to anywhere or even between its own terminals. It is well known for its congestion, overcrowding, and delays.

Manila Airport Terminal 1, Philippines was rated by Sleeping in Airports as the world’s worst Terminal last year in part because its ceiling caved in May of 2011 injuring two people. The terminal tends to be congested, run down and has filthy toilets that often do not work. Bribery and theft are rampant.

“Paris” Beauvais Airport, France is fifty miles north of Paris and is rated as one of the worst airports by Frommers due to insufficient seating, lack of services, and warehouse atmosphere. It does not offer rail service to Paris and closes overnight.
