If you love the sound of Steinway pianos, but cannot afford to buy one, just yet, consider the next best thing a Boston Piano. This wonderful piano was designed by Steinway & Sons. However, it is manufactured for them by Kawai Musical Instrument Mfg. Co Ltd in Japan and Indonesia.

There are several kinds of Boston Piano. Three upright models, that come in different sizes and five different sizes of grand piano. In addition, there is a special model called the Performance Edition. The fact that there is so much choice is one reason you should look at buying a Boston piano if you are in the market for your own piano.

Despite being a Steinway, the Boston is not a relatively inexpensive piano. This fact means that it is within the reach of most people. This is especially the case now that re-furbished and second hand models are starting to filter onto the market.

The fact that music schools and festivals such as Tanglewood, Aspen, Rvinia Bowdoin and Brevard all use these pianos is another sign of just how good these pianos really are.

A Short History of The Boston Piano

Steinway & Sons ...
... have been making pianos since 1835. They are considered by most people to make the best pianos in the world. From the very start they made high quality pianos, the fact that they never compromised on the quality of the components they used is the main reason their pianos are so special. However, this makes them relatively expensive pianos.

In the late 80s, the company took a fresh look at their range and realised that they wanted to reach those musicians who were good, but not quite ready to play a real Steinway. They dreamt of giving every piano player the chance to experience the magic of playing a Steinway piano.

The piano they came up with was the Boston Piano, which they launched in 1992. The decision to use Kawai to manufacture them was a stroke of genius. Kawai already made exceptional instruments, but had access to new technology, which meant that the cost of the Boston Piano could be kept relatively low.
