When we think of redecorating our homes we often first consider changing the colors of walls, re-staining woodwork and perhaps replacing wallpaper that we’ve grown tired of. Of course, redecoration can take on a substantially more ambitious tone when you begin to consider making major structural changes to your rooms, such as tearing down walls and adding windows and skylights. Those kinds of alterations can have a much more comprehensive effect on the look and feel of your rooms than, say, replacing the carpeting and refinishing your furniture would.

You might need to increase the amount of natural light that a room receives in order to make it more cheerful, and perhaps more comfortable to be in. When you want to heighten the amount of light that is currently available you might cut a new skylight in the roof if the room happens to be directly under the roof. Otherwise, you might want to add more windows or increase the size of the ones that you already have.

Whichever way you choose to improve the atmosphere and look of the room, you might also want to think about ways to improve the look of the ornaments ...
... and pictures on your walls as well. Pictures can be enhanced greatly when you experiment with different kinds of picture frames that are available to home decorators.

Certain framed items, especially those that are not perfectly flat, such as military ribbons, pressed flowers or other kinds of memorabilia might be a good fit under bubble convex glass, which will protect three-dimensional objects from the elements, but will not crush them flat. Framed objects usually look better and maintain better when they are covered by glass. And good quality glass will allow viewers to see your precious items with a clear, unobstructed view.

Most frames are rectangular in shape, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t explore the possibility of using frames that don’t fit the typical mold. Oval picture frames can be an attractive alternative to the traditionally shaped ones. And they are quite useful when you’re framing objects that would not fit well with traditional matting and frames joined at right angles.

You might even want to hang a series of picture, artifacts or memorabilia in oval-shaped frames, which would establish an interesting counterpoint to the many right angles that most room of the house abound in. You might even choose new furnishings and ornaments with oval shapes to further accentuate the rounded overall theme that you’ve begun on the walls.

Even if you have a limited redecoration budget you needn’t be discouraged. You just might find that you can give your home an entirely new and improved look by simply altering some simple design elements.
