Most of the time, we don't realize that stress can really take a hold of us in such a way that we get crippled by it. Stress is also one of the biggest reasons why people's lives are cut short - especially when stress related illnesses befall anyone young or old.

If you don't want to become a victim of stress, you have to embrace a more relaxed lifestyle. Here are five ways that you can use to manage stress effectively.

Laugh a lot and make sure you laugh often.

They say that laughter is the best medicine. It is true in some ways because when you laugh, you feel good and it helps you to keep the stress levels low. Make sure you interact with other people like your family members or your colleagues and have a good laugh with them. When you spread laughter all around, everyone feels less stressed out.

Learn to reflect on the day that has gone by.

When you live life aimlessly, you will get so caught up in the drudgery of day to day activities that you will lose sight on the most important goals of your life. If you want to keep your life in check and manage stress effectively, you must set ...
... aside time for yourself - totally alone so that you can examine yourself and focus on the things that really matter.

Silence is golden.

Sometimes, you must learn when to hold your tongue. It can be very tempting when someone has wronged you and you go around telling your common friends what a nasty person that person is and how they have wronged you. You may not realize that it is during the spur of the moment that we make rash decisions. When you vent out too much anger, you tend to generate more anger around you and the worst thing you can do is get everybody stressed out. Learn to control your tongue and you will be able to reduce your stress later on when you need to repair things.

Don't expect too much out of yourself.

Many a times, we live our lives with an expectation of ourselves that is too high. If you fail in a task or you get scolded by somebody, chances are, you will blame yourself and get all stressed out about it. Don't blame yourself or beat yourself with a stick. We are only human and we mess up once in a while so learn to have a proper perspective.

Go for a body massage.

Massages can be quite relaxing. Even foot reflexology massages can be very soothing and it lets you relax and take your mind off your problems for awhile.
